Ask to reschedule so you don't spread the virus at your future place of work. :)

Go to the interview.

If you don't go, they will call someone else

You have the flu, so what, its not like you have the plague or something serious.

Drugs. The legal kind. Pepto-bismal, advil, tylenol, etc. I know, you could probably reschedule, but it'll be in the back of someone's mind that in this economy, you couldn't make it in because you were too sick. Besides, you'd only be spreading your germs to human resources.

WRONG!

For reference, I've interviewed quite a few folks. I would be pissed and assume you're an idiot if you came in and potentially exposed the interviewers to the flu. That would fall on my list of top 10 ways to completely fail an interview here.

Obviously, you do want to call beforehand and let them know you are ill so they can reschedule.

Unless the position is completely unskilled, any company that only interviews using HR staff must end up with the most incompetent workforce ever.

Ask them if they want to reschedule - not tell them "I have the flu and I need to reschedule"

Personally, if I had an applicant call in and say they were sick on the day of the interview, they would be bumped to the bottom of the list. And I mean the "very" bottom of the list.

For being sick?? Doesn't sound like anyone would want to work for you anyway...

It can't be helped and people understand, try to reschedule it if possible.

I like the idea of calling them up, saying you're recovering from the flu and can make it in still if they want but leave it up to them. As you can see here, some people are going to be understanding and appreciative that you won't spread your germs. Others will take it as a sign you're not dedicated enough of a worker and/or desperate enough for a job.

How do you "know" the applicant is sick? Did he go to the doctor and have lab test done?

As far as I know, the applicant is:

Brushing the interview off for another day so he can negotiate with the company is currently at.

Not that interested in the job

Has another job interview, and this one was put off to second place

Hung over from the night before

How many days was the op sick? More then 2? Most companies require you to have a doctors slip if you take off more then 2 or 3 days for illness. Treat the job interview just like you worked at the place. If you called in sick, bring a doctors slip with you when you go back.
