Hi, i have the 9NPA+ Sli and i just got to get it together.
I bought the mushkin 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 500 (PC 4000) and i wonder if this memory has a too high DDR to work with this mobo.
The error i get is that sometimes when i am using my DVD WR driver it hangs and won`t let me continue. It also locked a few other times doing other things.
I have my DVD drive on IDE1 and for HD i am running with a Raptor on my S-ATA.
I will greatly apprecciate anyone who knows to give me some info!!

Hi fabidovalle,

I doubt its the memory. I have the same motherboard and have 4GB of PQI PC3200 memory and I get lock ups about 5 times a week lately (locks up, blue screen of death and then reboots and hangs). Haven't found a fix other then to replace it with a K8N Diamond Plus (on order).

Are you using Nvidia SW IDE drivers?..I would disable NCQ in device manager, also don't use Nvidia firewall.

Check for latest firmware update for your DVD burner and BIOS update for your motherboard too(believe latest is Nov 05).

Try changing the IDE cable ,could be faulty?

Test your ram with Memtest86+ too,Link.

I disabled the Nvidia firewall, but in the device manager, where can i disable the NCQ??
I tried using the Memtest86+ but i am having problems, is there any other easier way to test the memory?

I am going to update the bios!!

Thanks a lot for all the help. This is my first rig, and i slept 2 hours last night!!! :D

Memtest86+ is easy to use, follow instructions below,

Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip) for CD version is what you need or Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable Binary (.zip) for floppy version, then do this
How do I get it to run?

There are several ways to use memtest, which are described below:

+ Run from floppydisk

Memtest86+ is directly executable by any modern x86 compatible machine, by
writing the bootable binary to a floppy disk one can boot from the disk to
run memtest.

Simply download the appropriate package, the Pre-Compiled Bootable Binary
(.gz) package for Linux users and the Pre-Compiled package for Floppy (DOS
- Win) for Windows users.

For Windows, unzip the package into a directory like C:\memtest, insert a
blank floppy into your a: disk drive and run the install.bat file. As the
install prompts you, to use memtest directly, leave the disk in the drive
and reboot your machine.

+ Run from CD

Memtest86+ is directly executable by any modern x86 compatible machine, by
writing the iso to a CD one can boot from the CD to run memtest.

Simply download the appropriate package, the Download - Pre-Compiled
Bootable ISO (.gz) for Linux users and the Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO
(.zip) for Windows users.

For Windows, unzip the package into a directory like C:\memtest. You will
now see a file called memtest86+-1.xx.iso in this directory. You will need
to burn this file to a CD with a CD recording program. Do note however
that you should not make a regular data CD on which you for instance write
your text documents and holiday photographs. Instead the iso file is a so
called image of a CD, it is a direct copy of a CD. Your CD recording
program will most likely have a feature called burn image or something to
that effect which you should use to burn the CD.

As for NCQ look under the IDE Controllers then SATA Nvidia Controller in Device Manager, right click then select properties, with NCQ untick box "enable command queuing" which is in Primary tab of Nvidia SATA Controller of the HD in question,FYI it won't show if you don't have Nvidia IDE SW driver installed.

I checked and it doesn`t have the Nvidia SATA, it has 2 ADMA controllers and 1 parallel ATA Controler.

I am going to do the Memtest now. See ya in a bit!!
thanks a lot!! :D

I can't tell from reading your post if you are running your memory at 250 or 200? Did you simply set your CPU Frequency to 250 and then set your Memory Frequency to 200 to achieve this? If so, did you change the HT Frequency to 4 or leave it on auto? What CPU are you running and did you also verify it can handle the O/C?

It sounds like you are trying to O/C but maybe haven't gone through all the steps to verify each piece. Check out Zebo's O/C guide Here for step by step instructions.

Good luck.
