simply, it speaks towards fecundity--ability to reproduce successfully over several generations.

technically speaking, you are only considered fit (in terms of Natural Selection) when your child successfully reproduces.

think about all the 15 year old mommies and daddies in the south. the 30 year-old grandparents.

Back when food supplies were more scarce, the ability to efficiently store energy (via fat) when it was available was a potential evolutionary advantage. Us skinny folk would have succumbed to famine. Nowadays with an overabundance of food, it is a disadvantage due to diabetes, etc.

Darwinism applies over many generations and refers to genes, not individuals. The most fit genes tend to be passed down more and the less fit are eventually bred out; it's all about probabilities and it takes time.
