So, last May I bought a Toshiba 42HL67 LCD TV. I love it, good picture, good contrast, and very bright. Lately though I keep seeing 1080p monitors every time I go to Best Buy and I start getting that lonesome feeling deep in my heart. I really don't even need one, the only thing I do in HD is my Xbox 360. I keep saying though "if I had 1080p I'd get a Blu Ray" and such...

How does blu ray look on a 720p tv? Is it worth the $$ to move to 1080p and sell my old set off (my wife would KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILL me!)?

Depending on how far you sit from the TV, the difference between 720p and 1080p could be very minimal.

10+ feet probably. Will blu ray look purdy at that distance?

On a 42"? Probably not much of a difference at all. Save your money and wait a few more years. By then they will have something even better.

You're answering the "720p vs 1080p" question, right? Blu-ray still ought to look quite "purdy."

Of course. I had HD DVD when I still had my smaller 32" Olevia 720p HDTV and I could definitely tell the difference between HD DVD and regular DVD. Blu-ray would be no different.

Blu Ray looks great on a 720p TV. So does HD DVD.

I normally get 6' or so from my 32" 720p Sharp LCD. While upscaled DVD's through the PS3 do look great indeed compared to non-upscaled or TV-upscaled, they can't hold a candle to Blu-ray. I absolutely love BD playback. Sure, having a large 1080p set would be great, but that's a few years down the road for me. I'll make do with this, as it still looks purty. That, and having access to uncompressed or high-definition audio is wonderful.

You're missing a lot in terms of resolution but at your distance it doesn't matter. Move closer to the display or buy a 60+ inch one to enjoy HDTV.
