If you reported in early enough, i wouldn't be that worried. at worst i think you will only be liable for $50.

I've havent had that happen to me (crosses fingers). I have a CaptialONE card and its a $0 fraud liability.

I had Capital One "Fraud protection" on my card as well, and they classified a legit purchase as fraud...
It was such a hassle getting it straightened out.

Secret Service?

Don't you mean the FBI?

The Secret Service can't even locate the president... you think they can find your CC thief?

I've read that the SS covers a lot of areas, dunno if it's true. CC fraud, counterfeiting, school bullies, etc.

True, but this is not how hackers get their stolen CC numbers. SSL only secures the data being transfered to your computer and the remote site. Once its stored on the remote site, it's up to the site operator to make sure the database isn't accessible by any idiot who tries to get into it. Therefore, just because a site uses SSL, it does not mean you are safe.

As long as you stick with secure sites that use 128bit encryption for transactions your card should be safer there than a physical store.

OK, I just mailed my Fraudulent claim Certified mail with return receipt with the USPS and cross my fingers that I don't have to be liable any of the fruadulent charges. Thank you to everyone for their suggestions without them I would not have taken that steps I have which means greater my chance of liabilities.

How would the purchase be made at a store without the person actually having possession of the card itself? You can't just give your number to a store if you walk in can you? They have to swipe the card don't they?

Any place you use your card (restaurants, etc.) ALWAYS check the receipts you sign. I have encountered several places where the receipts display all 16 digits of your card number. This makes it very easy for someone to steal your card number. I used to know someone who worked as a waiter. He told me that if someone didn't give him the tip he thought he deserved, and they paid with a cc, he would steal their number and really mess them over. It pays to be observant any time you whip that card out in a public place.
Why would you post something like this here? Do you not realize that any US citizen who reads this is legally obligated to reports this to the FBI, and if someone does, you will be under arrest by this time tomorrow? A printout of this page can be used as evidence in court, and AnandTech will release your IP to the FBI, who will trace it back to your house.

Update: Someone pinch me. That's not your real name in your profile, is it?

Nope. No swipe needed. You can key it in by hand. Cards get demagnitized all the time.

People also make fake credit cards too. I have seen this being done on Dateline a few years ago. Card Blanks and some easily gotten card readers and the CC numbers are captured and with in 20 mins a new card is ready to go.
