Give the local office of the Secret Service a call
Secret Service?
Don't you mean the FBI?
The Secret Service can't even locate the president... you think they can find your CC thief?
As long as you stick with secure sites that use 128bit encryption for transactions your card should be safer there than a physical store.
Why would you post something like this here? Do you not realize that any US citizen who reads this is legally obligated to reports this to the FBI, and if someone does, you will be under arrest by this time tomorrow? A printout of this page can be used as evidence in court, and AnandTech will release your IP to the FBI, who will trace it back to your house.Originally posted by: KC5AV
Any place you use your card (restaurants, etc.) ALWAYS check the receipts you sign. I have encountered several places where the receipts display all 16 digits of your card number. This makes it very easy for someone to steal your card number. I used to know someone who worked as a waiter. He told me that if someone didn't give him the tip he thought he deserved, and they paid with a cc, he would steal their number and really mess them over. It pays to be observant any time you whip that card out in a public place.

How would the purchase be made at a store without the person actually having possession of the card itself? You can't just give your number to a store if you walk in can you? They have to swipe the card don't they?
People also make fake credit cards too. I have seen this being done on Dateline a few years ago. Card Blanks and some easily gotten card readers and the CC numbers are captured and with in 20 mins a new card is ready to go.Originally posted by: Evadman

Nope. No swipe needed. You can key it in by hand. Cards get demagnitized all the time.
