I threw an old BX board and a 450 Katmai and some other stuff together this spring and gave it to my 7 year old son for his birthday. Ever since, he has been griefing his almost 5 year old sister to no end 'cause he has his own computer. Well, santa decided to give him a lesson in humility december 25th.
I have only had Intel hardware for as long as this old Santa can remember. Thought it was time for something different. From the refurb rack at my local ma and pa computer store I pulled an ASUS A7V266-C, 1800+ XP, Lite-On CD-r and a floppy. I bought her the infamous Nikao "kitty case" which came with a 420w Enlight ps. I put an oval window in the case and cut 2 blowholes to put a couple of Antec tri-lites in. also a purple cold cathobe.
Barbie Detective story is going to have some serious frame rates. 😉 Not to mention the boys beat up old beige case won't be something to brag about any longer.
I haven't had time to RTFM yet but I have figured out the cpu is a Thoroughbred "A" (I have no clue what the different steppings mean with AMD as far as differences between them), and that the retail heatsink definitely needs a good lapping. I am loading 98SE on because most of her software is older and I own a copy of the OS.
I have no clue about 4 in 1's or the order of install on one of these Via boards. OS, updates, chipset drivers, DirectX update, video drivers etc,.
If anyone is willing to share helpful hints santa would appreciate it.
As always, Thanksabunch🙂
