OP:

We moved a couple of months ago and I am just getting around to hooking the HT back up.
But, my optical cable will not fit in the back of my DVD player or my receiver. It's the right shape, it just won't go all the way in. It comes closer on the DVD player than it does on the receiver.

I am not sure of the problem. All the cables went into the same box so I am pretty sure I am using the right one. There is no cover on the cable end and I don't find any more optical cables.

Are you sure? If you look at the picture on monoprice, it shows a very small, clear plastic covering on the small optical tip at the end of the cable. That has to be removed before installation. That's my only idea in this situation.

Damnit. You may be right. I pulled the tip off and it plugs in. Looks funny though and I don't recall adding the tip. In 56 years, when the DVD player boots up, I'll try it out.

Don't feel bad olds, I did the same thing a while back. I was so angry I almost cut the cable in half and tossed it. Then I realized the caps were on...

A little more to the story:
I thought I had 3 or 4 optical cables. When I got around to setting everything back up, I could only find the one I mentioned in the OP.
The next day, I was pulling my center and rear speakers out and I found two more optical cables. They didn't have the end caps in place. If I had found them beofre hooking up the DVD I probably could have put 2 and 2 together...
