I have no sound all of a sudden watching ANY DVD in ANY player

ok about a week ago everything was fine, i could watch dvds in WMP or media direct no problems at all. then all of a sudden the dvd works great except there is no sound. i have sound on everything else on my computer except watching dvds in ANY player. whats going on?
