I would much rather buy a computer or a pda than clothes however my gf thinks I look horrible and she probably is right. Are there any sites I can go, so I can get smart on style.

Thanks

I feel the smart ass remarks coming but oh well hopeful some good info too :D

If your girlfriend has good taste (or, if she picks out clothes for you to buy, and people later compliment you on looking good)... then, MARRY HER!

Problem solved.

Yes, I think you can learn style. I've been married for 13 years now, and my wife lets me pick out my own tie each morning. (Otherwise, she picks out my clothes.) It used to take me 4 or 5 tries before I could pick out a matching tie.... now, I get it on the first try. It's funny to see her expression when the kids get home from school on the days that she's sick or something and I have to get the clothes out for the kids... Apparently, I'm not good at matching kid's clothes either. wth ever happened to Garanimals?

If you're open to actually changing your ways, then that's a good sign...there isn't one easy way to go about it, so yeah, magazines are a good start, but they're generally not entirely applicable to an average person's lifestyle. If you have someone that wants to help you, maybe flip through some mags or people-watch for a bit, and talk about what you like and what you don't like, see what she says, and then why. Learn the basics...if you don't have a good fundamental base to your "style", it'll be torture trying to hit the really stylish "points". Don't overdo things, and make sure that you're always in control...never dress in a way that you don't like, but someone else says "looks good"...you should be doing this to make yourself feel good because you know that you look good, not because one other person said so.

man, some of that grammar was horrible. it's only 1AM...not a good sign. :)

Decent advice.

You fail to mention that if you actually look at the clothes they use in the showcase, you'll see that they are mostly designer brands costing far more for one outfit than your average geek has probably paid for his entire wardrobe.

Do the following:

1) Go shopping with your g/f
2) Go to a department store or clothing store and ask for help
3) If you have a higher scale department store like a Nordstroms or Saks, they offer personal shoppers

Don't buy anything with big logos or name brands printed all over them. You dont need to give them free advertising.

Get a new girlfriend if she cant see through your clothes appearance.

After all , style = society acceptance through image = b*ll*ks to that :)

Spend lots of money on clothes you don't really care about in order to impress people who mostly could not care if you live or die. Then you will have "style" Not your own of course, but others will approve of you and that counts more than who you really are.

My advice- Don't worry about it. Let your girl pick some things (for weddings, funerals, and job interviews). Otherwise, don't worry what others think.
