hmmm....

me and my stepdad were trying to start a remodeling business. things got tense. he doesn't want to work together anymore. Best way to put it is that I focus on the macro and he focuses on the micro. I am focused on making this a sustainable venture by implementing tactics and tools that will make growth easy. He is simply focused on getting a job for the next week🙁

I am listeing to Interpol right now, which is probably why this post sounds so dull, but either way, it is a shame that we can't continue working together.

I will try to see if I can handle his clientele for him but I don't think he will want that.

Hell it took months for me to get him to switch from pop to imap, and when it came to a CRM, he had jsut had enough.


I wasn't the greatest employee either. He expected me to be both a laborer and have a vested interest in the consulting aspects of the business as well, and honestly, I couldn't give him what he wanted. The labor was so long and arduous, and yet so void of mental creativity (as a laborer) that I simply couldn't stand it. I lvoe change and creativity, and challenges, and the like, and being walled-off from that was really stressful.

Worst off, work distracted me from schoolwork and I was not able to study the average of 6-9 hours that I had studied this entire term, and ended up not doing well on a Statics exam I had this past week🙁 I studied a LOT for it, but not enough. (Teach. said I needed about 9-10 hrs, and I trust him with that figure, since he has been teachign for decades).

Basically, I have no job, will probably fail to pass my class (that test was wroth 25% of my grade🙁 ) and jsut feel like a used-up candle fizzling in the water.
 
Im pretty much in the same boat. I wont have a job in about 3 weeks and I am going to fail one of my classes. I have never been so despressed before.
 
If he was worried about clients from week to week, i honestly think networking isnt the thing he needs help with. You should be out there passing out flyers or something
 
I really need motivation right now so I am going to call up a certain humanitarian organization that I have worked for before and see if I can volunteer for a week or two until I get everythign back in order and find another job🙂
 
What's kind of cool is that, in actual cash, sincewe haven't gotten much business, I got paid about $200 in the span of like 2-3 months:laugh:
 
You could potentially do well with it depending on the housing market in your area. Is is hot/heating up/ or cooling down over there right now?
 
It's remodeling business, not IT consulting company. Pen and paper would have worked better and cheaper. Sounds like you guys should've spent time and money on marketing if you can't get work lined up in this crazy construction boom market.

We can get a LOT of work. The key is, we can't grow as a company. All these guys these days want $25/sheet of drywall and their loyalty is sh!t:|


We can get work. It's the employees that are a problem.
 
hey david!, sorry everything is sucking right now but don't give up hope yet. Regarding you class, it's only worth 25% you can still improve a lot, you may not get an A, but if you put a lot of effort you might still pull a B, believe me it's possible.
Regarding your work, I think it's time you get yourself a job that it's related to what you want to do. Start looking for internships that you can get, and you'll have some experience in the electrical engineering field. There are a lot of opportunities out there, and you are a smart kid, even when things suck don't give up just yet. Believe it or not , I don't think it's such a good idea that you volunteer right now, what you have to do is start applying to other jobs and internships and slowly get your grades up. Next semester, you could even juggle a few more credits while working and then you could finally transfer. See, David, you are smart but you need to stop giving up if things go bad, just keep at it and you'll see everything will work out. See, it won't always go as planned , but as long as it gets you to your goal everything will be alright. I think that it's time that you start pushing yourself david, it's the only way that you can finish what you started.

Now get off ATOT and start reviewing your Statics.

If you do good work the rest will take care of itself. My uncle retired and started doing that part time and quickly got more work the he wanted or needed. This was with no "marketing" or advertisement except word of mouth.I have no idea what you ment about "consulting aspects". You show up ask them what they want tell them how much you will charge, if they accept you do the work. Sounds like to me you just wanted to "Supervise" while he did the work.
 
I like being out of work...I quit my job a few weeks ago and decided to have a little break from things...nothing like collecting unemployement(which is almost as much as what I was being paid), sleeping in and best of all, no annoying customers to serve...I have decided I will neve work in retail ever again, people just whinge to much.
But I will have to get off my butt real soon, my GF is due with our first child in october so I'll have to get a decent job, not legalised slavery like my last job.

You're starting a small construction based business and are worrying about imap over pop and CRM software? I think you are the one that lacks the proper focus, not your stepdad. That's like the dotbomb companies that got fancy buildings, Aeron chairs, and free food for their employees rather than focusing on their core business.
