I have never been to a big concert.

By big I mean those huge concerts bands have, while they are on their tour. You know the kind where tickets get sold out months before, and everyone wants to see them. Yeah those.

I have only been to smaller concerts, like at my university. Bad sound, look totally unprofessional, and get boring.

Never even had the urge to. Maybe it's because I don't exactly have a favourite band. Well Phil Collins comes close, but I am guessing his concerts will be full of people my dad's age.

I haven't either. I've been telling everyone this, support your local music scene. Big bands are great, but nothing beats going out to a bar with your friends and hearing the local bands rock out. There is some good stuff out there, just go find it.

Uh yeah, cry me a frickin river.

Incidentally, a relatively easy way of scoring big concert tickets is by becoming a radio junkie and calling into those radio contests until you win. I've gone to see Sting, Phish, and David Gray this way. (David Gray isn't a huge artist but the concert was in a major stadium venue.) I also won tickets for Peter Gabriel last year but couldn't make it.

I had a biz trip in Boston two years ago or so and they took me to see U2! It was the best concert I ever attended.
Too bad I couldn't find myself on the DVD.

Will see neil Young next Fri and Dylan on Sept 18.
Yes, I'm old.

I've been to sooo many concerts and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

I would list all the people I've seen, but that may take some time. The coolest thing was, I saw Bush on tour 3 times last summer and met them after every show. They are so friendly and love to chit-chat. Especially considering that we didn't meet them until it was about 12:30-1 in the morning after their show, when they had to be in another town a few hundred miles away the next day.

I dont like stadium shows. They just seem too impersonal to me, not much different from watching them play on a screen (unless you pay out the nose for floor seats right up front)

Club shows, however, are almost always amazing, and the smaller the club, the better. If the band is good, you cant ask for anything better.

You have obviously never been to a Tool concert.

Best stadium concert I ever saw was Iron Maiden. Have seen them in a 50,000 seat stadium and later saw them play in a club holding just 100 people. They are simply the best live band ever.

Guns' N Roses/Metallica/Faith No more at the Astrodome in '92 was good too, but nowhere near as good as Maiden.

I will never be a fan of tool anymore.
I had tickets to see their concert, September 14th, 2001 in Dayton, OH. 2 days before, they postponed it, if you don't realize why, look at the date harder. Well, that's understandable. That weekend, they said a new date for the show would be announced the following week. The next week, they said they would announce a date... at a later date. They then made another statement saying that it was still postponed, hold on to your tickets because they will announce a date. 4 MONTHS LATER they say the concert will not go on, and that it is indefinately cancelled, take your tickets to any ticket master location and get your money back. You have to realize that they didn't announce this until Tool's tour was over with 3 months ago. 3 Months and they can't even just go ahead and cancel it earlier.
So, anyway, I took my tickets back and returned them. The only problem is that some deadline had passed for ticketmaster, and they would not refund any of the service charge for the tickets. A ticketmaster service charge is in the area of 35% of the ticket value, and I had 4 $35 tickets. So if your math is good, you would know I lost about 45 dollars because they didn't reschedule/cancel earlier.

Only been to a few myself. Aerosmith (x2), Smashing Pumpkins, and Nelly. Might go see Bon Jovi next week.

The biggest one I ever went to was "the California Jam".
More people there than at WOODSTOCK.

I would NEVER go to another show that big!!

Big concerts that sell out the local basketball or hockey arena via Ticket-Bastard kind of suck, IMO, unless you happen to be right up front (not because of the band, but because of the venue). For me, the best scene, and the best sound, comes from a sold out local club.

I saw Bonnaroo last year and this year. 3-days, 75,000 people and roughly 60 bands gathered on a large farm qualifies as big, huh? Who cares how big the show is as long as the sound is good. Bad thing about most arena shows is that arenas aren't build for concerts and usually have horrible sound echoing off every angle holding the roof up. Just because you haven't seen a sold out Britney Spears arena show doesn't mean you are missing anything.
