A modded Xbox with an empty hard drive makes not a life good.

Data there must be.

This thread is worthless without details.

Projector and surround sound could be $200 or $200,000

How about a huge waste of a powerful computer? 1 GHz is enough for a HTPC, an overclocked 3 GHz dual core is just a BIT overkill. The graphics can't won't do anything for you either.

For $280 I got a PC that'll do anything a HTPC should be able to do and more.

sheesh...we wanted it to be totally future proof meaning no upgrading at all...minus C2D, extra hard drives or a blu-ray/hd-dvd drive if need be.

how will the graphics not help? it'll offload some of the HD playback onto the gpu if you have the right card and software.

for $280, you have a computer that will play games at 1920x1080, watch 1080p movies without any noticeable slowdown (some movies have horribly bad fps), and output 7.1 sound? i find that very hard to believe. the reason we built this computer is to save my parents money (it would have costed a lot more if we went with standalone parts), and to actually utilize the 1080p goodness the projector has.
