So Fry's Electronics has a 27'' HDTV that'll do 720p and 1080i and takes HDMI, S-video, VGA, Component and probably a few other input forms. It was $399. I was all over it like white on rice as soon as my dad showed me the huge Fry's Ad today.

So I've gotten it home, bought a reasonably priced HDMI cable while I was at Fry's (6 foot for $18, better than the ones they were charging $50 for). I have it all set up taking the place of my old 27'' Zenith. I got it playing nicely with my PS3(which was the real motivation for this purchase) and MY GODS.

The Gran Turismo HD Demo looks amazing. Resistance looks more amazing. The set has an 8ms response time and I didn't notice any ghosting while playing either game. I am in awe. I love this TV now. Browsing AT looks tiny.

So my question to you is, what should I do to really awe myself with the new set? I have a decent DVD collection including Fifth Element, I could try and force myself through watching Taledega Nights on Blue Ray to notice the difference, or I can simply go back to playin my games.

There's something wrong when your console costs 50% more than your TV.

I got the 20gb version, so not quite that much more. And sets like this routinely go in the $600+ range. It was just one of Fry's Electronics door busters.

Sorry but in the hi def nation you need at least a 40" screen. No one is every going to come to your house to watch the superbowl on a tiny 27" tv.
Its go big or go home :)

I'm stupid when it comes to Blu-Ray, but don't you need 1080p to watch Blu-Ray movies in it's supposed "awesome goodness"?

That's fine with me. It's not the tv in the family room, this is for my computer room entertainment. Other people in the house like their 32'' CRT, so I'll be more than happy to let them have it. Sure it's a bigger screen, but it doesn't look as good.

And you probably do for the Blu-Ray. I dunno, I'm not paying much attention to the format war, I'm still buyin plain ole DVDs.

Now go get yourself an AVIA calibration DVD so you can awe yourself some more once the colors, brightness, etc. are setup correctly. :)

27" isn't bad for the bedroom. I have a 32" lcd in the bedroom & anything larger would've been too big. I have a 60" DLP in the living room tough.
