I have been sick for the last two days and went to work anyways waiting for a bulletin to post online for the dealers and it affects some 400,000 vehicles. I worked late last night making sure it was available and everything was operational. Now this morning nobody can find the files I uploaded and published last night. Everybody is in an uproar screaming at me over the phone warning to know what happen. As far I can tell the hosting servers crashed and lost the information, but the host site says that not the case. I?m pissed, this the kind of crap I have put up with, I followed processes and they were confirmed, so why is my fault. I tell you why, the brains of the company fired all the XML programers but me, and so it?s my fault. So here I sit at home on a slow dial-up connection with an old laptop trying to refresh the servers. And now when I do go back to work, I will have to explain this to about twenty different departments why this happen.

I feel for you. You worked late... it's bad enough not to be recognized for it... and the results came up AGAINST you. HOWEVER, you're still responsible for the outcome, no matter how much effort you put into it. IT people have to bite the bullet sometimes - we're paid well (in most cases) to be the lifeline of many processes. If it's someone else's fault like a third party, we cannot expect our higher-ups to understand that. WE need to fix it. They pay US to fix/maintain/manage it.

Do you know how many times I've gone in for hours on a Sunday for server maintenance and come Monday morning, a DB gets corrupt because of network hiccups or service provider outages? I can bitch all I want, but when the customer calls to escalate the issue... who does management look to blame in the end?

Suck it up and hope it never happens again. It will happen again at some point if you work long enough. When it rains, it pours. Truer words were never spoken.

I do have a local back-up of all my files and well on the share drive. The problem was with the host site, there servers crashed and didn't upload the last set of files needed to display the Recall. I just found out and sent this message to my manager. As for a person to back me up, I'm in the process of training someone to know how to upload the files to the server. Plus I almost finished writing the XML editor to operate like a word program so they won't need me so much.

I also resent the files to hosting company incase any of them were corrupted.
