WHOA!

I have an NEC FP1350X 22 inch Diamondtron monitor. This particular model CRT monitor has DVI input. When comparing the DVI to Analog modes, I found that while the DVI was cleaner and had a better image, it couldn't go as high of resolution or refresh rate as analog. Basically is couldn't go higher than 1152X864 85 hz, any higher and there would be graphical glitches.

I just picked up a Radeon 9700 Pro at Best Buy (built by ATI, 249 bucks) and popped it in. VIOLA, I can now run 1280X960 85hz without any graphical anomolies. With the 8500, 1280X960 would cause problems. So, I'm pimpin it at 22 inches, 1280X960, and a PERFECT image!

no, 249 out the door. I did a double take when I saw the price, and there was one left, so I said what the heck. I'll play around wiht a 9700 for awhile, and can always take it back, 249 is still a lot to pay for a video card. My 3dmark03 went from 1300 to 4700!

Nice. Quite a few of us have said DAC's should be in the monitor rather than on the video card simply because it's smarter to have one well-made DAC integrated into the monitor rather than a cheap one stuck on every video card, especially when monitors last through several video cards, not vice-versa. (The only problem with DVI is that it's limited to 85Hz @ 12x10 and 60Hz @16x12, whereas some ppl like to run monitors that big at higher res/refresh. But that'd be fixed with a newer standard, while the advantages of the DAC onboard the monitor would remain.)

Good price on the retail 9700P, too.

Hmm, I am surprised DVI limits the refresh rate. Is that always the case or specific to that monitor?
