whoa...you all are not supposed to see that TV for a while yet. That set will launch fall of this year. We (retailers) just learned about it this past week. I have Samsung's book for next model year and have been toying with posting some of the sweet things in it...but that would mean risking my job.

well then lets just let the cat out of the bag!!!!

That model is right around 9" deep IIRC. Samsung will drop MSRP on their current DLP models by $500 starting next month. Next year's HD DSS receiver will be at $299 vs this year's $399. Hmm...what else??? Oh yeah! Toshiba will be entering the DLP category with a Cinema Series DLP set that will rival the Samsung!

From what I understand Samsung, among others, showed off some serious DLP-based TV's at CES this year. Would anybody have guessed that they could make a big screen RPTV that is less than 10" deep?:Q

Nice, but I would be thinking of either waiting for the HD3 1080p chip or a front projector.

That's just me though :D

just wait til late summer/early fall. Every big name will enter either the DLP or LCD projection scene. The downside is that with model year 2005, 50% of all tv's 20 inch and up have to have an integrated HD tuner built in. This means that you will see a price hike next year (built in HD tuners average $500.)

The price drops and such are definitely news to me, but information on these new televisions were let out of the bag at CES this year. DLP is poised to take on LCD sales this year.

If you are a DLP fan, I highly recommend thumbing through this link.

yes, but prices will soon fall as "everybody" will have this feature. Soon it will be a standard feature :) can't wait!

I agree. If you can, wait for 1080p. The difference between 1080p and i is unbelievable.

Not if the HDTV standard isnt 1080P.... HD-DVD may do 1080p but I dont see tv doing 1080p especially since it looks like its gonna be 720p/1080i

Well, that one is quite pretty. And I know this one is old, but I'm still enamored by this television:

Having stood in the same room as one of these and feeling crowded, I was QUITE impressed. And there's nothing like making a decision between buying a decent sized car or a TV!

I think the price drops are already hitting. CC just put all the samsung DLPs on sale $500 off, plus $300 giftcard... so I think their just hitting now.

I bet you will see "Enhanced HDTV" 1080p broadcast when the bandwith and technology becomes cheap enough for the mass market. Broadcast television will remain at 720p or 1080i for the forseeable future - probably through 2010 at least. You are correct, HD-DVD will support 1080p from the very beginning.

Can't wait for us to start receiving stock on that baby...although it won't look like that concept, it just can't. We were prepped on the new additions to the line a few weeks ago when the Samsung rep dropped by, they are doing some niiiiiice stuff.

Go Samsung :D

Call me crazy, but I can think of better ways to spend 16 grand. That TV is 30" deep and weighs 500lbs. For the cost of that television, I would rather buy a high-end DLP front projector and a quality screen. A 100" screen that is brighter and with better contrast than that LCoS monitor.
