I have the C.T.H.D. DVD with the English dubbed track, and it truly is SUCK! :p Fortunately however, because it's the DVD I have the original Mandarin track as well as a Korean one, along with a bazillion subtitles. :) I also like the Ang Lee commentary and the Michelle Yeoh interview.

Too bad it is unavailable in North America - I had to order it from Malaysia.

Every time I watch those Michelle Yeoh / Zhang Ziyi fight scenes they just get better and better.

Yeah those two girls rock when they fight each other. My favorite scene is when Michelle uses a a whole bunch of weapons against the Ziyi. My two fav. weapons on that were the "hooks" and the spear. She moves that spear SOOO freaking fast!

DUBBED? GAH! I hear that FOX is going to broadcast it on TV dubbed... I just hope they use the guy who did Starscream's voice at least once. ;)

I thk this an example of very subtle racism/stereotyping...some of the ads on TV market crouching tiger as an action packed movie when to me the movie was a drama with action...movies that are dubbed remind me of the old jackie chan fighting flix...that's all asians do...fight fight fight with their kung fu or whatever... did they dub a western movie like Life is Beautiful? or Run Lola Run? no. but I guess they will dub this fightem up flic :|

Yeah, but remember they're trying for a much younger audience with CTHD, it's not like Run Lola Runa and LIB got huge releases and weren't primarily aimed at the teens/tweens/20s. Dunno about the stereotyping issue... I'm Asian and wasn't offended by the ads, plus seeing a movie in Mandarin (even though CYF has a terrible accent) might make younger audiences more accepting of non-action Asian fare in the future.

Oops, maybe I should read before I post... anyway, I don't think that they'd air Life Is Beautiful or Run Lola Run in their native languages either, networks just don't like to gamble.

I actually thought the dubbing was more enjoyable then the subtitles... there were 2 - 3 parts where I cringed a little, but compared with most dubs, it wasn't that bad!!

The problem with dubbing is that you lose some in the translation. I have watched a movie dubbed with the subtitles on, and the dubbing and subtitles were really different at times. I will always chose to watch with subtitles given the opportunity.

Did you guys like that movie? I personally was not impressed. The fighting was pretty fake looking. I guess the upside of it is that Ziyi is cute. oh wells you can't have everything in a movie.

i was damn near in tears because it was so touching. if you go into the movie thinking fighting, it's gonna disappoint because it was not meant to be a matrix. traditional chinese movies that characterize this time do glorify the fighting and it seems fake to make it seem like a fairy tale almost...I guess it is a cultural thing.

nope i think the fighting is just fake because they got bad corographers (however you spell this word). It didn't touch me much either. Oh wells I guess I was so disappointed but the other things I missed the touching parts. I will watch it again and let you guys know. eheh.

CTHD's subtitles are much better than they usually are, but they still didn't translate everything. I distinctly remember laughing at one point where the rest of the audience stared at me as if I were insane. Kind of reminds me of that scene from "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" when the director of "The Big Boss" yells at Lee... heh heh.

On the "fights looking fake" thread... it's more like Chinese opera, where it's heavily stylized at points. Some of the concepts don't translate very well... I personally thought the choreography was great.

I too have the dvd, i freaked out when ilooked at the language menu:p hehe, only manderin and english. I could only stand to watch 5 minutes of the english dub.. jeez god. Translation into subtitles already loses meaning, translation into dub loses meaning to the level of a bad rewrite:p

I saw "Dragon" in the theaters... when that scene came up I looked over at my friend as if to say "did he just say what I think he just said... TWICE?!"

<< I too have the dvd, i freaked out when ilooked at the language menu hehe, only manderin and english. >>

I have English 5.1, Mandarin 5.1, Thai, Cantonese, plus for subtitles, English, Chinese, Korean, Thai.

Yeah, I have NEVER understood the over the top fake looking choreography. I didn't like the super-jumping scenes. I know they're supposed to have superhuman powers, but it still looked fake, like bad wire parts of Superman in Lois and Clark. But overall I still liked the movie.

I don't have the trailer, but I have a commentary with Ang Lee and James Schamus, a picture gallery and actor bios, some music videos, and an interview with Michelle Yeoh. I think there's some computer software on this disc too, but I haven't checked it out.

However, it's a single layer disc. So because there's so much crap on this disc the video quality suffers a bit. Too bad it isn't an RSDL disc or two discs.
