I have concluded that I f**king despise on-screen control schemes on iPad games

I know it's not quite a console, but in some ways it acts like one, hence my post here.

Anyway, I have concluded that I f**king despise on-screen control pads on the iPad. I have gamed for many years, and I just cannot get used to losing the tactile feedback of a real controller for on-screen controllers. This is because I can neither feel NOR see where my fingers are and my brain is obviously incapable of accepting this.

Anybody else like this? The iPad is great for certain games, like RTS (even though there aren't many of them). No feel, but who cares because you're seeing where your fingers go relative to what's going on, but with a FPS you never see where your fingers are directly, which is fine if you're using a PS3, xbox etc. controller, but on the iPad it feels to me like stabbing in the dark.

I recently installed Dead Trigger on my s2, but I couldn't get past the terrible aiming controls. Movement worked fine though, because it was a virtual thumbstick, not sure why they didn't just put one in for aiming too.

Yeah, touchscreens would be great for a minority of games (turn-based strategy and tactics, adventure, ...) but those games mostly aren't made for mobile devices. Instead they get this virtual controller garbage.

Yes I hate touch screen controls for anything that involves a lot of movement. It's frustrating to play smartphone games.

I played a couple of seasons of FIFA on my iPhone and it wasn't awful. But the controls are simplistic. Anything more than a simple 'dpad' and a couple of buttons would be awful.

I'm in the same boat, any game that requires accurate and fast response isn't for a touch screen. I'll stick to turn based strategy type games or anything else that doesn't require fast, percise and accurate controls.

I'm surprised there isn't more support for bluetooth controllers. I know the iCade is available but seriously a decent control for idevices would be awesome. They are more than capable of providing decent games that just need a controller. I know people will say they don't want to cart a controller around but damn, at least gimme the option.

There are many options for bluetooth controllers.

Play games? I can't stand editing a simple text document with a touch screen.

Hahah so much of this. The iPad has by far the best touchscreen for input, but it still sucks donkey balls compared to a real kb/mouse setup. And sucks donkey balls for gaming compared to even terrible console controllers like the Jaguar, Gamecube (yes the analog sticks were trash with a microscopic D-pad), etc, let alone a great controller like PSX/X360/NES/SNES have.

This is why i bought a vita. I thought gaming on my phone would work. For some titles it really does. For others, nah it just doesn't. I didn't get a 3ds because i didn't think i would like gaming on the go and my phone could suffice. I was wrong

This is not console gaming! I refuse to answer your question. You need to put your topic in the apple subforum.

I love things like Kingdom Rush or WOPR because they feel good on a touch, but d pad stuff it rough for me.
