thanks guys i guess im going with the comcast dvr =P oh well. just hate giving comcast more money for services that they have a monopoly on.

I know how you feel. I still prefer our TiVo's interface, remote, everything about it.

However the dual tuner HD DVR's quality blows it away, very nice. I like that you just rent it and there is no out of pocket expense.

good choice.. i have one, and i can't live without it anymore

Yes go with the Comcast DVR, in the future Tivo may be something to look for but not until they get ones that support Cable Card and can tune HD and Digital Channels.

If your PC has FireWire you can hook it up to the HD DVR and extract HD video (according to AVSForum.com threads and other AT'ers).

The AVS forums are absolutley massive. Would you happen to know specifically where I might be able to find more info on this?

They make a feature, don't quote me on this, but I think it's called "Search".

and when after typing in the model number of that box and getting a million threads and reading the first 30 of them, I decided that mabye I should ask for more specific directions. Go Fvck yourself.

Thank you K1052

Wow you must suck at the reading. I searched for it just now and found the thread in 5 seconds. Next time, try not being lazy 🙂

funny thing, they're out of DVR's at the moment and i'm going to be in a waiting list =P

you can record the current stream from the cable box via the firewire port. If you want to use your computer as the tivo, get software that will let you download the channel information, and some type of IR transmitter, and have the computer control the cable box and record the data stream from the firewire port. It probably won't be easy to set up, but it's the original solution for your problem.
