tried the Glenfiddich 12. pretty good. At its price range it's quite unbeatable. (it can be had for 25 bucks)

I haven't had the 18 year versions yet. But I've had 12 and 15 year versions of those or their close cousins. They are good enough. Sure, maybe the first sip will be a bit better, but after one shot would you even care? I have much better places to put my money.

ya... at one point, I wish i didn't try it. but for Glenlivet 18 is "only" 60 bucks. imo it is very affordable for what you get for. McCallan, on the other hand, at $149, is too much to pay off.

well, it's a "once in a while" treat for yaself, I won't finish a bottle in a week, where it could be done for the 12 years.

I was doing the 18 year olds from the large distilleries till I went to Islay's and now I can't go back. Try Lagavulin or Caol Isla, then report back.

I've had 5 different 30yr olds, all 5 were exceptionally smooth compared to 12-18 yr olds. I was at a scotch shop at Heathrow and they had some 60 yr old for 1000 pounds ($2000) a bottle. I can only imagine what that stuff tastes like.

Yea I usually just have to go for the 12 year McCallan - wish I could afford more expensive stuff. Mmmm, scotch.

If you want to try good Scotch, go for something that doesn't start with "Glen".

Yes, yes I just said that.

Any scotch will do as long as it's not a blend of course. Single malt Glenlivet, Glenfiddich perhaps maybe a Glen... any Glen.

Well this thread has inspired me. I went out and bought a bottle of Glenlivet 12, and I need to know the best way to drink this stuff. I looked through a couple threads and some people were saying either a splash of water or a little ice. What do you people recommend? Should I let the bottle sit at room temperature or chill it?

I know it's sacrilegious to do so, but I do like to freeze/refridge it. i like it serve cold, but don't like the idea of putting ice in it since when the ice melt it will dilute the scotch.
