Yes.. welcome back to 1999.

I've not gamed in so very long....
I recently drug an old PC out of the closet to look for some old photos and consequently it has Half-Life Original and TFC installed on it from waaayyy back in tha day.

To my surprise there are still a small handful of decent servers out there still hosting away. I've been playing this every day for a week straight now.

There have been a few updates.. I don't remember teleporters and sentry rocket launchers? being part of it.

Mostly they're all dedicated to a particular map.. 2fort of course being the most popular. I've found a good server hosting dustbowl and had one evening of a pretty lively match playing casbah.

Can't believe how much fun this used to be.. Reminded me of the old days getting together for LAN parties and clan battles..

It brings back some good memories... That is all.

Moved from OT.

If you ever played against U-238 or U-235, that was the clan I was in =D My favorite was running 7o/1d, and me being the lone demoman D totally raping the other team. quickdet = da best

Using chrome now and get a report each month of bad links, one is in my gaming folder that is called tfc-classic. Can't remember what it went to though.

Loved that game and wouldn't mind checking it out again. Sniping was so fun it was insane, especially on AMAZING maps like Turkeyburgers! I swear, the low gravity and sniping people as they fly through the air was absurdly entertaining. I can't say any game has ever been that much fun since.

Haha! I remember both of those clans! That was you? Some pretty good company there. I was with [LX2] (Lightening Strikes Twice). I've been repping it this week but nobody remembers so it's just me... Seems like -EVIL- is one of the bigger groups now.. they have several servers, usually only one or two with any number of players on.. most of them seem to be regulars, at least I keep seeing the same screen names.

I prefer to play as a pyro. I love the flame rockets. Snipers and Spys always hated me and it's too much fun chasing folks around with the flame-thrower and watching them all scatter like a bunch of cockroaches under the light.

Well, I'm off to go play some TFC now. Any of you AT folks that still have it come along, let's bring it back!!

I'll probably be on the -EVIL- "back to basics" server or on -Wicked- (the one that hosts dustbowl and the only one that ever has anyone on it)

You might have been playing on a NeoTF server.

Also, Fortress Forever is worth checking out. It's been out for a while but just recently got Greenlit on Steam, so I would expect a small resurgence when it finally gets put up there.

TFC is definitely one of my favourite games of all-time, clanned in it for many years. Still miss the good ol' days when it was in its prime.

Haha, yeah, I guess it was NeoTF. Even says that, I just didn't know what that was. I'll have to check out that Fortress Forever mod too, It looks pretty awesome (even if they did steal Fringe Division's logo for it)

Thanks!

I didn't know about TFC (until now), but I'm just hooked on TF2. With all the paid games I have, TF2 always gets played daily. Awesome game!!! (I do hate the Spy and sniper.....they always get me (soldier) lol.)

I'll check out TFC as well now.

My God that game looks crusty. What is that explosion I see at everyone's feet in the videos where they take off flying through the air so quickly?

Quake 1 Team Fortress was the daddy, though I do like TFC. Brings back good memories of Wireplay and Barrysworld server based games. :)

I want to know who's behind these [SFM] TF2 animated shorts. They're pretty damn good.

Conc jumping. You use the force of concussion grenades with the speed of bunnyhopping to launch across the map.

Conc jumping was one of the greatest instances of 'bug-to-feature' ever. It completely changed how the game was played when people started figuring out how to use them. Valve did have to rope them in a bit initially as they used to make you fly insane distances, but thankfully they didn't remove their effect completely.

The conc maps were so amazing. Triple concing across massive canyons was so fun. I'll have to play again.

Dude those was the best days ever playing TFC. Would loved to have had Steam stats back then to track how may hours I wasted away.

I still can't play TF2 before getting frustrated with no conc'n. Scout FTW!

Damn having flashbacks to the bhopping server i used to play on when TFC was dying out. :( missed the regs that played there. Great times!!!

I use to love TFC. One of my favorite games. Loved conc and EMP grenades and the soldier's nail grenade that you can toss under the sniper deck in 2fort and it would bug out and kill the sniper above them.

Those were the days. Grenades are probably what i miss most from TF2.

TFC is the game that got me in to PC gaming. Played for quite some time, something like 2000-2009ish.Still hop in a pub every now and then. There has never been another game that kept me around like TFC. Played in all the leagues, STA/TFL/OGL/UGC. I still have a few of my .avi's that I made from back in the day.

My God that game looks crusty. What is that explosion I see at everyone's feet in the videos where they take off flying through the air so quickly?

This made me LOL. As of others have mentioned it was a concussion grenade you could use to "conc" or "conc jump"

Re-upping as Fortress Forever is finally going to come out on Steam:

A Long Overdue Update
OCTOBER 17 - SQUEEK.
It's been nearly a year since Fortress Forever was Greenlit, and there's been a total lack of updates since then. To remedy that, here are two things that will be happening in the coming weeks:

  • The current version of Fortress Forever will be released on Steam
  • The Fortress Forever code will be made open source on Github

Why did it take a year for this to happen?

We didn't think it was possible to release the current version of FF on Steam because we thought that the version of the Source SDK that FF uses was too old.
Neotokyo
[neotokyohq.com] proved otherwise, and we are able to follow their lead and finally release FF on Steam.

What does 'released on Steam' mean?

It means that you'll be able to install Fortress Forever directly through Steam and that you will receive updates automatically. As always, Fortress Forever will be completely free.

Why go open source?

Fortress Forever's development has been largely opaque for a huge majority of the playerbase for a very long time, and the reason for that opaqueness has not always been intentional; attempting to keep everyone informed can be pretty labor intensive. By moving our development entirely into public view, it will be easier for everyone to stay in the loop with what will be happening with the game, and will give everyone a chance to participate directly in the development process.

Beta is open, you can request keys like so: Click

Changelog:

Current differences between Fortress Forever 2.46 and the Steam beta version:

  • Fixed spectators not getting their kills/deaths/fortpoints reset on restart round
  • Fixed getting a frag added when using the 'spectate' console command (it used to be to compensate for the -1 frag from suiciding)
  • Fixed grenades disappearing after falling too far
  • Lowered the hard cap from 180% to 171%
  • Fixed flags getting stuck in ceilings
  • Added support for separate collision and touch bounds for info_ff_scripts. The sizes are now controlled by Lua functions:
+ <entity_name>:gettouchsizes( mins, maxs ) passes min and max vectors by reference for the function to alter in place
+ <entity_name>:getphysicssizes( mins, maxs ) passes min and max vectors by reference for the function to alter in place
+ <entity_name>:getbloatsize() expects a float return value, uses the value to inflate the touch bounding box (default bloat is 12)
  • Flag touch bounds have been decreased somewhat significantly: touch height is now ~50% of flag height, and touch width is now ~75% of flag width (flag touch bounds used to be larger than the flag itself in both dimensions)
  • Added different kill icons for unbounced rails, single bounced rails, and double bounced rails
  • Added airshot detection
    * Airshots show in the console like so: player killed player with weapon (airshot)
    * Airshots are logged to file like so: "player<id><steamid><team>" killed "player<id><steamid><team>" with "weapon" (modifier "airshot")
+ The (modifier "") string only gets added if there actually was an airshot, otherwise the entire parenthetical is absent from the line
  • Fixed ff_training not showing map loading info when launched from the main menu
  • Allowed the speedometer to show while spectating someone
  • Added a middle bhop cap - when you are over it, reduce speed by more. Currently set to 1.55 speed (620 for scout) and it has a lower pcfactor (0.3 rather than 0.65). This means downtrimping is good for one jump and reduces successive conc skim jumps without reducing the hard cap too much
  • Slimmed down the number of maps included with FF

always preferred qwtf over tfc. tfc just felt more spammy to me. i did like the extra strats when there were nades in the game. it was awesome when you had a perfectly primed grenade and could catch a guy in midair after you sent them airborne.
