I have been going through 20 years of music the last 3 months in temporal order.

I know, this reads as a bit paranoid but please bare with me...

I noticed the radio music got worse in quality and production. It seems the music was more happy and poppy until 2006/2007. During 2007, the music sounds more depressing and it seems that some after processing is applied. The way loudness is used to normalize every instrument to the same level. The music from every genre that i listened too, sounds similar as when in a stadium a large group of people are randomly shouting. Very noisy. Makes it a burden to listen to. Was there during that time frame an upgrade in music equipment or some new software released to produce music ?

Are you listening to music in the same format across the decades (CD? CD ripped to mp3?, mp3 downloads?)?

Thank you for the typo.
My translation is sometimes a bit awkward, sorry...

To be honest i was thinking of these options :
320kbit MP3 from original cd.
But the original cd may have been mastered very badly since 2006/ 2007.
The mp3 codec settings may have changed. I did not do the mp3 compression.
I am enjoying mp3 from a friend who has a music fetish. He compressed all his (legally owned) music from cd to mp3 and later on compressed again from cd but used flac instead.

There are some blanks to be filled in. I agree.

I do remember the loudness war and a whole new range of digital music production equipment that may have not been used correctly.

That period of time is when the Loudness War went thermo-nuclear. and a New Pro-Tools version came out, too.
In the past during the Age of Vinyl as a medium of transportation, the dynamic range was limited by the Masterin Engineer during the cutting of the Master Disc. You could not have an over-excursion of the cutting head on the LEFT side as it would cut into the RIGHT side of the track it cut just milliseconds before. Remember it cuts in a spiral moving inward.

(Maybe it was Not over cutting the RIGHT so as not to run into the left., It's been a loong time since I've been there)
