I have been disgusted at this years Olympics but after the sprinters antics I'm GLAD it's over today

All the allegations, all the untold stories, all the drugs, the money involved, the PRICES they charge for anything. It just makes me sick. They make such a huge deal out of the Olympics but it's not real competition anymore.

It may sound stupid but just watch the very last scene of Blue Chips when Nick Nolte is talking about how the college athletic system works, thats what I feel about the Olympics. "It's about money, god damned money!"

Then there is the Utah scandal. Tell me that wasn't about money. You tell me that those men weren't handed big incentives under the table so the Olympics could come back to the US because of the revenue it brings.

Then there was Maurice Green and his buddies. I just WISH I were an Olympic big wig. I would bust his ass good. Ok I'm pissed so I'm stopping now :|

The funny thing is, the most inspiring or memorable moment of these Olympics to me is when they showed that guy from Equatorial Guine (SP) in the qualifier swim -- it was the first time he'd ever been in a pool longer than 20 yards long. In fact, the 20 yard pool he learned to swim in 3 months before the Olympics is the only pool in his country.

The guy almost drowned trying to complete the 100M swim, but he struggled and made his Olympic dream come through. Now that's what the Olympics are really about, not some millionaire athletes.......

Yea I remember that. The crowd cheered him on and when he finally made it they said he thought he had won a medal.

People should understand that in a capitalistic economy most human activity is in some way connected to money, and the generation of even more money. Big surprise there.

As for the US track relay athletes and their post-win antics, hopefully they've learned an important lesson: within a community, there are things more significant than you being filled with self-importance.

Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.

Maybe I'm an a$$hole but I found the whole thing with that guy in the pool annoying, if you cant swim with the big boys you're just making a fool of yourself. This is after all the Olympics not the special Olympics.

The IOC has a program for encouraging developing countries to participate in sports not normally found there. Perhaps you are aware that the number of swimming pools in Africa is quite small, excepting South Africa. Thus, swimming is not big in Africa, to say the least. So Eric was asked by his country to try his hand at swimming, which wasn't his sport. Although this Olympics was a very mixed bag, I think Tagej hit the nail on the head. Eric's "swim" certainly exemplifies what amateur sports and the Olympics are, or should be, about.

The IOC has been trying to bring soccer to American men, but hasn't succeeded yet. :p

I agree the playing around during the National Anthem was very inappropriate. I was not disturbed by their lap around the track.

They apologized afterwards from what I recall. I don't find it hard to forgive them for their overindulgence.

I'm always sad to see the end of the Olympics because it has always been an important competition to me.

Yeah...it's sad to see the Olympics end...it's always great to see athletes from all over the world compete in front of billions.

Oh well, it's off to Salt Lake City in 2 years. :)

Does anyone have a link to Eric Eric Moussambani's 100 meter swim? I never saw it but would like to.

NBC owns the rights for it, so it might be hard to find. I just looked briefly for you but couldn't find it. Inspirational, for sure. Almost brought a tear to my crusty old eyes....
