I give up!

This Home Theater PC business has chewed me up and spit me out.

I had a decent system set up. It was in an old tower case I had. Well, I had some cash so I decided to go a little more upscale.

Bought:

Intel P4-2.4C
Intel Mini-ATX mobo
512 DDR RAM
200GB Hard drive
60GB Hard drive
Coolermaster ATC-620 case
Quiet Power supply
Hauppauge TV Tuner WinTV
StreamZap Remote
Snapstream 3.2

Well, all this stuff is garbage now. I think the proc is bad. I cant use the mobo, case, tuner, RAM or hard drives. I have spare parts sitting on the shelf already. My main system is decked out already. I guess I could put that 200GB drive in here, but with the 137GB limitatation pre-SP1 is a real pain in the rear. My RAM slots are filled with faster RAM already. I am missing just enough parts to build a second system again, but then what? I don't really need more than one anymore. I have spent more time sweating over a not-POSTing PC than I have enjoying the HTPC function. That is all it was asked to do. TV, DVD, and Record.

I guess I could ebay, but never like selling things. Plus, I live overseas, so shipping eats me alive.

*sigh*

I guess I will just stick this stuff in an closet and forget about it. That is the worst thing about paying cash...you don't really see the waste every month on a statement.

I hate sticking $800 worth of gear in the trash can. I wouldn't give this stuff to my friend, much less enemy...it has never been stable. Requires restarting every day to reset the tuner card.

I think I am hanging up my home built hat, and buying pre-built from now on. With Dell's 400SC deal, no one can do better.

I am going to go buy a small $89 DVD player to watch my DVDs and a cheap VCR to act as a tuner for my 20" LCD display. At least that is not going in the closet. Well, until I move back to the states and get a real tv.

*sigh*

I pushed the power buttton one last time, and it came to life. I got, what I thought were POST, tones. They were coming from the 200GB hard drive.

Damn, lost all my recordings again.

I am going to order the 160GB Seagate SATA drive and go another round with this bastard. It will work dammit!
