I have and Epox 8k7a, can I upgrade the CPU?

I have an epox 8k7a w/ an athlon 1500, can I simply drop in a 2100+ and go; or will I have to reinstall everything on my hard drive?

That MB is supposed to have a 266 fsb, so I assume that it should be able to support anything up to a 2400xp.....correct or no?

Lastly, I'm really looking for a simple upgrade and I'd rather not reinstall / reformat my HD. I know if I change the MB & CPU I would go w/ the Nforce 2 board and therefore have to redo my HD. So if I just change the CPU, can I boot up as usual, and maybe just fix a few programs and not everything?

Everything should be fine if you just replace the CPU, but IIRC, you won't have SSE support unless you reinstall the OS. This isn't a big deal for most people, though. Programs aren't going to care, they only worry about their location on the hard drive and registry entries which aren't going to be touched.

what does SSE stand for?

The support dept at Epox told me, "...Ensure that you have the 8k7a with the revision number that does support the Xp 1900+". Mine is revision 1.1, which does support the XP chips. You can find the revison number in the bottom left corner when the board is installed (under PCI Slot #6).
