I have an Ultra ATA100 hard drive gone dead

Can I buy an "Ata-6" or "Serial ATA150" interface harddrive, and throw it in my notebook? (Notebook bought in spring 2003)

Or must I stick w/this hard drive (buy a carbon copy of the same HD)

You can only use ATA drives in that, not SATA. Any ATA drive should work, but make sure to check the thickness before you commit.

You could by the same hard drive or you could take this opportunity to upgrade as well. If it's still under warranty you may want to just RMA it.
