Resurrecting an old post, hope it is on mark.

New topic deserves its own thread -- Programming Moderator Ken g6

I have an old license plate and I want to determine if it is close to what my car might have originally bee issued in 1962.

Any suggestions for how to work backwards from a Alpha Numeric value to a numeric sequence?

Hi, patrickmichael, and welcome to AnandTech Forums. :)

First, what I think you're looking for is a base 36 to base 10 converter: http://www.translatorscafe.com/cafe/units-converter/numbers/calculator/decimal-to-base-36/

However, I think what you want may be very different. Old license plates in my state, Colorado, start with two letters, followed by three digits. I've heard that the two letters designate, not part of a numerical sequence, but what county you registered your car in. So the numeric value of your license plate may not relate at all to the difference between your current plate and its original 1962 plates.

So, where do you live? And what kind of pattern does your plate look like it follows?
