I have an odd problem with a Vista install on a Nforce4 motherboard

I'm running Vista x86 on an Asus A8N-E motherboard and I have:
1 DVDRW PATA drive (Master)
1 CDRW PATA drive (Slave)
1 PATA HD drive (Master)
1 SATA HD drive

I know there's a common problem with Nforce4 Raids and Vista but I don't have raid set up at all. I do have a PATA HD drive split into 2 partitions for dual booting Vista and XP. The SATA is used for backup.

I've lucked out in a way that my SATA HD drive works. At first it would display disconnected at random but for the last couple days it's remained so I'm counting it as fixed. (with fingers crossed)

However, ever since installation or at least ever since the SATA HD drive started working my 2 optical drives won't display and they're (!) in device manager due to an error stating it cannot load the driver. This is a problem only with my optical drives which are on channel 1. The PATA HD drive has displayed perfectly and it's on channel 0.

I've tried installing all versions of Vista drivers with no luck. I would appreciate and thank you for any suggestions. 🙂
