I have an Iwill KK266-R. Can I use 3 HDDs and 2 Rom-drives without using Raid?

If this is the wrong forum, please don't stone me.

Right now I have two I dentical 30GB HDDs, a DVD-rom, and a CD-RW. I want to add a removeable HD for backup but I don't know how to go about doing it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thx,
J

There are additional IDE channels besides Primary and Secondary - you'll just need to find a card that supports them. I've seen references to Tertiary and Quaternary IDE channels(3rd and 4th). If I can find a card supporting such, I'll post.

Edit: Okay, HERE you go - this is a PDF, so you'll need Adobe Acrobat, but suffice to say the Promise Ultra 100 controller will do what you need as it can support 4 ATA drives and can co-exist with the IDE channels on your motherboard, for a total of 8 IDE devices. :)

Can you use one of the ide ports from the raid controller on board? Don't use it as a raid array. Hook up your rom drives to the raid ports and use the primary and secondary for the hard drives.

Yes you can. The raid channels will act like any other ide channel when raid is not being used.
