I have an in-person interview on Thursday for an internship position. It's going to be a technical writing internship with a major airline company dealing with editing and designing publications.

I had a phone interview last week and they are flying me out for an interview. I know every situation is different, but I just want some people with experience to tell me about their own experiences.

What kinds of questions should I expect? What SHOULD I expect?

they are testing you... if they do government contracting... they want you to pick the most expensive options. If they are a non-profit they want to see you pick the cheapest option.

Choose wisely.

Could be anything....

It could be a brain teaser interview....you know the type where they ask really dumb questions like "If i have this cup half full, and I need to fill Paris Hilton, how do I measure her".

It could be a very technical interview where they ask you technical background questions based on your major.

or it could be simply an interview to assess what type of person you are.

Or, it could be all three.....

btw, for tech writing....really pay attention to detail....and be able to explain yourself clearly.

Do NOT provide the Jeeebus answer to this question and you should be fine:

Q. So what brought you to DC?

A. An airplane.

Q. ...

Do not stare.

Yes, I've had applicants stare at my secretary and I had to instantly fail their interview.

Make eye contact. Don't fidget. Sit up straight (But in a relaxed way - not like you are scared shitless). Be prepared to ask intelligent questions about the company - use this as an opportunity to show that you have done some research on the company and that you aren't just sending out resumes and seeing what sticks

While there are no set questions some companies expect you to have 1year, 5 year 10 year paths mapped out. Not a huge fan of this myself but esp since this is an internship they will want to know where you want to go in life

Others want to know about hobbies and interests. Try to relate them to certain strengths of yours. For example I used the fact that I knew nothing of tools or had never done 'handyman' work before but I taught myself how to build a home theater room. I then related it to how well I can teach myself new things
