I have an idea for a political TV show!

Here's my pitch 🙂

My idea is a "political reality show" ... at its most basic level, we would be dropping 8 individuals who are each at the extremes of our political spectrum. We'd have the conservative, we'd have the liberal, the democrat, the republican, the libertarian, the socialist, the jingoistic fascist, etc., etc. They'd be forced to live in the same house for an extended period of time -- let's say a year. During the course of their forced co-habitation there'd be a million cameras on them recording their every conversation.

We'd also do politically-themed challenges ... for example, instead of voting people out of the house, we'd instead make everyone run for office. "House President" or something catchy. Every cast member gets one vote, and whomever captures office can use their power to influence various aspects of the house (food supply in the refrig, art on the walls, temperature of the house, etc.).

Instead of solo-confessionals in a small dark room, we'd have anonymous "sources" who could leak information about each other, bloggers whose postings would be on the screen crawl constantly and members who won challenges could take turns being an "AM Radio pundit" who can freely broadcast their political opinions throughout the house 24/7.

I could go on and on, however do you think this is watchable?

Would it be successful? I think a lot of people would get bored. Think about if you put WCjerome and that recently vacationed nazi troll in a room. It would get boring quick. Even if you had legitimate Republicans and Democrats in a room their discussions would probably be annoying to listen to. At least on P&N we can tell certain people they're full of it.

What if we had a reality show that followed our politicians around all day? We could see the the nice racist comments from some of the Republican nuts, maybe get a Democrat to cry on camera again... and all around see what kind of sleezes they interact with.

I think we should just hook up our elected officials to lie detectors every time they have a news conference. Say on "Meet the Nation". ROFLMAO.

how about a show similiar to the switching the mom show. You put a single religious conservative in a house of 5 liberals and vice versa and see what happens? If after a year they change their views to conform with everyone else or the other 5 beat the lone guy up.

it wouldnt be political unless there were voters, if they only voted amonst themselves it would be like survivor with all the secret alliances and backstabbings.

The viewers should vote via text message or someting, like American Idol does, that would change the whole dynamic of the show, they contestants would be more interested in getting themseleves more air time, and the "leaks" about other contestants would be much more effective.

I probably wouldnt watch it though. I only watch a few hours of HBO a week, and thats all of my TV time

Good ideas!

Yes, the text msg (or via Intraweb) voting would add the needed political dynamic. Cast members would still run for "House President" as described earlier, but they'd need to convince the audience of their qualifications. There would still be "survivor style" alliances and betrayals as some cast members dropped out of the race and threw support behind another, etc.

If you disturb their sleep and make them go without food for awhile, I might watch it. Nothing like watching two or more extremists yell at each other while non of them gets what they want.

I absolutely love the idea, it would be hilarious.

I would watch it. Maybe add some stuff for variety, like some cooking or makeovers, lol.
Yes, you could have an episode where the liberal wins a challenge and is able to perform a mock gay wedding in the house to the collective horror of the righties. Alternately, if the conservatives won the challenge, they would be permitted to hang the ten commandments on the wall above the front door or something . . . Or if the socialist wins the challenge he can force everyone to pull all of the money from their wallets and redistribute it evenly among the cast members.

Oh the hilarity! 😀

Reality Shows are Stupid.

Even if this is a better idea than other reality shows, it is still a reality show. I don't find TV shows filled with everyday people entertaining and I haven't since the first Survivor. And if I want to watch something political, I want to hear from people that are smarter or more accomplished than me, or have some real contact with the events being discussed. Otherwise there's no reason to watch them. The only good thing reality TV ever did for me was gave me a lot more reading time.

I would love to see a true Liberatrian (how about an anarchist) or the Socialists be President of the Household. Oh the hilarity that would ensure. What about Anne Coulter and Hillary Clinton in a death match to determine who gets immunity. I would pay money to see that!

Edit- what dealmonkey said. I should really read before I post.

Agreed. The problem with these kinds of shows is that they are entirely contrived. AKA, there is absoluttely no "Reality" in them.

Fill it with:

Carville
Hannity
Nader
(fill in others)

and I'd watch 🙂

I'd only watch Nader if it had an old air cooled VW with leaky fuel lines and they were in the frozen north.
I'd cry over the VW though... that would be a nasty thing to do to it, leave it with a guy like Nader.
