So im addicted to hard dries :p. Every cahnce I get I jump on them if its a good deal, and this deal was too good to pass up. Two 160gb Velociraptors sata 6gb/s for FREE. I will be doing a 4way RAID0 setup with those drives and my two 150gb drives sometime soon (prob tomorow if I have time) and will post benches. Just letting you know so you can check back tomorow to see the godlike speeds of four velociraptors in RAID0, this will be my boot drive too :)

Instead of running benchmarks, run a spell checker instead. :p

Good Luck Smoblikat, personally I would be happy with a new SSD for my home system. At work I have been working on a systems with an Intel® SSD X-25M 80GB, then an Intel SSD 320 80GB, and now a new Intel SSD 520 120GB. When I go home I am working on a Western Digital SATA II drive that is driving me crazy with how slow it is.

And on that subject, I have a 120 GB OCZ Vertex 3 on the way that will replace my current 150 GB boot drive. Hard drives are so yesterday.

Addicted to an obsolete technology...ok...

Says the dick who has TWO hard drives in his system. Plus one in his craptop.

@Everyone who wasnt being an ass, thanks. I will be posting benches later, im having trouble with booting now.

@Intelenthusiest I dont think id ever want an SSD, they degrade over time and I have to manually monitor what I put on them. With a setup like mine, I get the speed of an SSD, but with the ease of use and space of a hard drive. plus you cant beat the price :p

I used a Velociraptor in my last PC build, but I won't use them again after that. They're not that cheap, and the performance benefits weren't that great compared to a modest HDD. After I replaced some 1.5TB Caviar Blacks in my current PC with some average 2TB drives (Caviar Blacks are just too loud -- and one of them has 5% bad sectors :p), I replaced the 320GB Velociraptor with a 1.5TB drive.

Although, I do feel your pain on being addicted. I'm having to force myself to not buy the 3TB HDD that's on sale at Newegg right now. I don't really need it, but I would like to replace two of my 1.5TB HDDs with one 3TB drive. While the fact that I don't truly need it is holding me back (the two HDDs have about 600GB of free space each), the bigger reason is that $150 still isn't that good of a deal. I believe the first 3TB drive that I bought only cost me $120 on sale.

I wish the prices would go back down faster. :(

I'm happy you're happy, but hdd's simply don't touch the random seek times of a ssd.

I would have to agree, but thats ot all a drive does. Im looking for longevity and ease of use, plus they were free.

Me too, though why not buy the 3TB as backup, surely that is of some use

I'm addicted to SSDs.

I'd put one in my 360 if MS weren't douchebags on XBL about modding.

Here it is, some preliminary benchmarks:
scaled.php

This is the normal pair of 150gb's
scaled.php

This one is the pair shortstroked to 140gb (70gb per disk)
scaled.php

This is the pair shortstroked to 60gb (30 each)

I plan to do 30gb per disk when I run all four drives.
