The R32 is £23,000 in the UK for a 5 Door model. I'm going for a test drive on the 15th of this month. 3.2 litre V6 240BHP of juice supping wonderfulness.... :) What colour would you go for. they are currently available in Metalic Silver, Metalic Blue and Good ol' Black....:)

My question is why the new motor? Can't you just go for a "built" motor from your current block and boost it? That'd put out as good if not better performance than a R32's VR6.

EDIT: btw, for that much money, I could afford a WRX STi or Evo 8... both of which I'd rather have.

the r32 sounds like a sweet car on paper, but i wonder about the coilpacks, window regulators, MAF sensors, 2nd gear grind and the other vw MK4 "features". that and the price is a little steep.

coilpacks and window regulators have been fixed, 2nd gear grind is on the 5 speed not the 6, but i don't know about the MAF.

MAFs have been fixed since 02;)

its not just any Good ol black... its Black Magic Pearl;)

I take it that u live in the UK?? I would hold off on the purchase cause the MK5s are coming out soon over there, and i am pretty sure by that time all their Vr6's would have the 3.2l if not more :)

this are just examples. the problems i listed are not major ones, but vw has handled all of them in a very poor manner. my 2000 gti was plagued by bad window regs, 8 of them to be exact. it took vw almost 2 years to fix THAT problem.

My vote would go for R32. The best which VW has put out. If possible get your hands on the latest copy of EVO. They did a comparo of all latest fast hatches : Alfa V6, WRX, Focus RS, Golf R32 etc. They ranked R32 the best. I think Top Gear (Jeremy Clarkson) also recently ranked R32 as his favourite.

What i'd give for a 4-Motion Golf on this side of the pond. :(

Do the PD TDI's over there have 4-Motion as an option?

The R32 *might* just make it this side of the pond. Albeit expect it to cost close to 30K. Needless to say it will kick some serious ass though.

It's a good point. I did discuss that with a number of VW franchaises and they gave me the impression that the "New" MK5 Golf will not be out in the UK until the very end of 2003 or beginning of 2004. They also said it's likely that VW will release the lower end models first which could mean that the 4 Motion alternative will not be out until even later... :(

I suppose I should say that my wife is expecting and the baby is due in July. She has given me permission to get one providing the car is bought before the baby arrives...decisions desisions.... :)

I saw Jeremy Clarkson review the car (this is what started me off). Although not the quickest around the track when compared to the Focus Cosworth as it was only 0.2 seconds slower, but in terms of finish and refinement the VW won hands down. :)

Yup that's the review I was talking about. There is also a video of the same floating around the web somewhere. saw that. I was sorta surprised with Jeremy's comments, since he never steps back from tearing/critisizing any car. He seemed surprisingly happy with the R32 - Cool stuff. The Focus RS while being a tad better on the track will be quite uncomfortable on real roads and daily condition.

Yeah I believe it is too, and yes around 30k. :)
