I have a barton 2500xp that probably everyone got from newegg for ~$80.

I have an enermax eg365p-ve

I can hit 191fsb stable with this chip using an slk800 wit 80mm fan. The thing is i get restarts and corruption wheneve ri try to put it any higher. My temps right now at 191 are 32/42c (cpu/mobo). I have the CPU v @ 1.675 and ram v on default

The setup is in my sig but here's some quick specs
asus a7n8-x
1007
Buffalo PC3200 running 2-3-3-7 now but i tried all combos and still no go .

I noticed my 5V rail is only pumping at 4.89max and i was thinkin maybe this was the problem. Any guesses guys?

i had a similar problem with my asus, but it might be the processor. try upping the core voltage to handle the extra speed.

try running barebone with just:
1. cpu
2. vid card
3. floppy
4. ram on your machine

then relax the latency of the memory

bump fsb/multiplier and vcore if needed, and run memtest or windows memory test bump fsb again till you find the best fsb for your memory without failing the memtest ..... then install the rest of the stuff...boot to windows and run prime95 to test for stability....if you get a rounding error bump the vcore a notch till you don't encounter the rounding error anymore...good luck...OCing takes trial and error

Don't know if your mobo has the "ultra 400" fsb but not all nforce-2 boards make 200 fsb. Also you might try 2.5-3-3-11 on your memory or even run it asynchronously, like at 80%, to make sure it's not the bottleneck.

I have an epox board that will NEVER make 200 fsb and lots of other folks have non 400 guaranteed boards that top out at 185; check and see where your problem is before you pull out all your hair! And post results please

My 2500+ needed 1.75v to make it to 3200+, I've read that many do nowadays.

I have the latest asus mobo the ultra 400 series so i doubt its that. i will try at much more aggressive voltages and see what happens with that. But my main question is does anyone think that the 4.89 on my 5v rail have anything to do with my "problem"?

Thanks for the responses guys....

I think 4.89v on the 5v rail is fine, and I doubt it is causing the problem. The advice given above may help you work this out. HTH. Peace.

I just tried 200mhz fsb with 1.75 and ram timings at 2-4-4-11 and no go.... restarts randomly witin minutes of booting into windows. I think i'm going to update my bios from 1007 - 1009 and see if that helps.

I'm now back to 192mhz at default voltage with my timings at 2-2-2-6. I still register as a XP3200 in windows so my feels bigger. :Q

CPUID tells me im runing at 2110mhz so now im thinking is it worth it for the extra 88 (8x11)mhz to reduce my memory timimngs and try messing around more with the voltage?

Thanks for the sugestions though.
