I have a theory. A dark horse source of information for the Feds on all that Ukraine stuff.

Drum roll please............

The new President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

Think about it. Who knows everything concerning communications between US and Ukraine?
Who has a motive to squeal?

Our Feds could have setup a back channel to Zekensky. Knowing all the shit that has come out in the last few days will help sink Trump (arrest of Guliani lawyers)
Feds never reveal the info came from Zelensky.
Once Trump is gone their aid will be safe.
Info from Zelensky leads Feds to others as to not point back to him.

Plausible??

I’d think it would be very difficult for the FBI to be involved with this.
However who knows.

I don't know... I'm sure Republicans would be very upset if we solicited other nations (heck, why not the whole planet?) to meddle in our internal politics.

In the case of Trump you are investigating a crime that was already committed and admitted to. Feds would be requesting information for official government business. Far from requesting information for a political campaign.

In the case of Biden there is no alleged crime. And that was also investigated by the Ukraine govenment.

Why did Zelensky say he didn't "feel pressured." That was Zelensky throwing Trump a bone because he doesn't want to have bad relations with him. I would agree that he'd rather have the democrat win next year, because whoever it is will likely if anything increase aid to Ukraine. But I don't think Zelensky rats on Trump then says something in public to help him out.

Yes, that's exactly what he did. But it makes no sense for him to rat on Trump then undermine the charges by making an exculpatory public statement. If Zelensky was worried about blow-back from Trump, he would never rat out Trump to begin with.

The released texts certainly suggest a lot of effort was needed to get Zelensky on board. It is obvious had he publicly said next to Trump that he felt pressured, that would be bad news for him. Otherwise, whether he felt pressured or was instead an eager participant isn't actually meaningful here. Trump solicited campaign help from a foreign nation using his office to do it. End of story.

The exculpatory statement was required to get the defense money. He doesn't have to publicly contradict that for now. All he has to do is tell the truth to investigators and let them run with it.

If it doesn't help getting Trump removed Zelensky is no worse then he is now. Ultimately it is in Ukraine's interest to have a US President not beholden to Putin.

We've had secret back channels throughout history. No reason it couldn't happen here.

I think Zelenskiy is in quite a precarious position. At home he’s squeezed between pro-Poroshenko and pro-Moscow elements, and he’s an unknown without any foreign relations experience trying not to irritate the clown circus in Washington. Dude entered office with a huge target on his back, and I’m sure the only way to survive (at least politically) is appeasement of some faction or another.

The one thing he has right now is the backing of the people, but that can change in a heartbeat.
