Today i checked on the temperature of my cpu and i noticed something odd.
The temperature changed rapidly every second from 50 to 55 and at some times it would peek at 70 celcius instantly.

So i started doing some stress tests to see how the temperature behaved.

Once i started the test, the temperature would go to 90 almost instantly and the moment i stoped the test i would go to 50 instantly.

Which is not even possible to be happening because the processor needs some time to drop its temperature or to raise it.

Seeing this happening so rapidly makes me thing there is a problem with my processor thermometer.

It seems like the processor performance and its temperature are getting the same exact reading or something like that.

If you have a Ryzen 3000 series CPU that looks quite plausible. They heat up almost instantly.

My cpu is intel i7 - 5500u .
Also i know that cpu can get hot almost instantly.
But the fact that it cools from 90 to 50 instantly is not something thats physically possible. Right?
Thats the reason that i think that my thermometer is giving me wrong readings.

It is possible if your cooling solution is working. How long have you had this laptop, and have you ever cleaned out the inside? Is it under warranty?

The heating and dropping is normal. 50 is pretty high for an idle (no matter what chip including R3K) that's probably why it get so hot so fast. How slow does the CPU clock when it hits 90?

Honestly doesn't matter. 3 things is happening maybe 4. TIM has gone bad, There is no TIM, HSF isn't mounted correctly, or fan isn't spinning correctly or at all.

Just noticed this is a laptop. Changes a few things. First thing is blow out all passage ways in the laptop. Listen closely to the fans see if they are winding up. In any laptop 90c means the fans should be screaming, if its not screaming the fans are bad. If it is working (and not making a screaming whirring sound but more like a growling sound) then it might be time to open the laptop, remove the cooler clean the TIM and make sure the cooler is extra tight.
