I have a stress fracture...

Straight to the question: Is there anything I can do to speed up my bone recovery from a stress fracture? Vitamins I should take? Anything?

The story: I went to the doctor yesterday becuase my lower leg was bothering me after I ran each night. The pain would last until noon the next day but I was fine to walk otherwise. I used to get shin splints when I was younger but this felt nothing like them and the pain was only from my lower left leg. The doctor said I have a stress fracture right where the pain is and that I need to stay off it for a month to see if it gets any better on its own. A month without running is like a month without a computer... almost. So in my attempt to make sure that this month is the only time I'll need to recover I turn to ATOT for assistance. I'll be talking to my doctor here soon to ask what I can be doing to help the recovery, but I would let ATOT remove my spleen before some shmuck with a so called Degree would be allowed to cut me.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Bone is not spelled "BOWN"

When I broke my humerus a few years ago my doc told me to take a calcium supplement to help the bone heal faster. You could try that too. Other than that, just have to rest and stay off of your leg. Sucks I know, but thats life.

No not really, if it was a joint injury I could recommend some stuff, but other than calcium no, rest is what you want.

And, you don't want to rush it, the fact that you have a stress fracture should be telling you you either over did it or ignored previous pain.

Ask your doc if you can start bike riding before running. That could help keep your fitness from dropping too much.

I had a few of those in my foot but I never could figure out why as I don't run or do anything strenous. I just had to deal with it as I'm on my feet a good part of the day for my job. The plus side is I can wear sandals or flip flops to work now!
