I've read all the sites, and don't understand how to upgrade to 2.0 then downgrade to 1.50. Should i even do this, or will the risk of having a bricked PSP too great?

My understanding is that it's safe, I wouldn't be surprised if you can even skip a step and go back to 1.5 directly from 1.52.

I've upgraded/downgraded loads of times and never had a problem, and I've never heard of anyone bricking their PSP with the MPH downgrader.

Nope. Some new games won't run with older firmware, but I've never heard of a game updating the firmware without the users consent.
