Thought I had a Samsung 840 EVO. Been putting it off and went to run the performance restoration software tool. It says it couldn't find an EVO drive. I open up my file server and have to uninstall the SSD from it's adapter bracket. Sure enough, it says it's an 840, not an 840 EVO. SO a B. No kidding. I look back to 2013 to my Newegg purchase and there it is. No EVO. And here all this time I thought it was an EVO. I checked my wife's rig (which DOES have an EVO) and it's got the updated firmware already. Wild.

I'm happy with the purchase. I don't think the EVO was out yet when I got the 840. I got the 840 in late January 2013. The EVO didn't come out until at least May. My memory was just fuzzy. I originally bought it for my main rig, had issues with it and returned it to Newegg for replacement. In the time it took to receive the replacement I decided it wasn't the drive I wanted in my main rig and used it in in my file server upgrade project in early 2013. I've got a new SanDisk Extreme Pro 480gb that I'm going to use on my new build. Just need to purchase the cpu/mobo. Probably will finish that after I do my taxes in the coming month.

Not a 840 Pro?

Why would I want a 840 Pro in my file server? It does little writes. It does make access to all the other hard drives a lot quicker than the old hard drive I used to run the OS off of in the previous build. When I first got it all put together I remarked how snappy the response was across the network.

No... just checking. I had forgotten about the plain vanilla 840, pre-EVO. That seems like a long time ago...

Doesn't the 840 non EVO suffer the same issues as the 840 EVO and it was just not fixed due to it being a "legacy" product?
