Do you normally say hi right away to a person or wait for the person to say hi to you?

Most of the time, I don't say it and wait for the other person to say or just nod. I talked about this with my friend and he says it is rude and I should say hi right away to all.

What do you think? Is it rude? And what do you do?

This is regarding people I do not know closely. That could be work-related, college, etc. And saying "I have a question ..." sounds better than "Some questions for ya'll...".

See, I can say hi to some people but I just find it awkward saying it to others.

Damn me, I just walk by people lol. I don't know. I used to say hi to people a lot, and they didn't respond well or whatever. So I just stopped. I guess I'm cold. I guess starting tomorrow, I'll initiate it and say hi or hello or whatever first.

Initiation is always a good sign. Shows that you're assertive and willing to take the first step and approachable.

It also makes you look more friendly, cool and generally a positive image. Too bad I'm not thinking that way sometimes. People piss me off sometimes. Oh well, a new start it is.
