Yeah so this might be real simple for you people out there, but here goes. Well I just recently upgraded my system wiht a new chip, new ram, and a new HD. Problem is my old system wasn't able to run under this so I had to install Windows onto my new hard drive and go from there. My new windows system can read all the stuff from the old one, and I'm wondering if there is an easy way to transfer all the information from the last drive to the new one so that th ecurrent operating system has the same attributes as the old one (They are both windows XP).

IF there isn't an easy way, I was wondering, where do the programs such as AIM or amatech store there information for away messages or settings, is it located in the old registry? And if so how would I transfer this to the new system??

I hope this makes sense..... If not tell me :-D

I recommend you try asking in Operating Systems. I think there are some answers too in the Anandtech FAQ (not sure).

You say you got a new HD. Many manufacturers have software available to copy your old software from the old drive to the new drive. Check out their site and have a blank floppy ready.
