I was just curious which CAS (Computer Algebra System) that some of you math majors/people prefer. The one's I usually hear about are Mathematica, Maple, and Matlab. Which one do you prefer?

I've used Matlab extensively for DSP, image processing, computer vision. Never used the other ones.

I've used Maple extensively over the last year for research, it's worked well for what I've needed. I've been meaning to learn MatLab for a while now.

I've played around with Mathematica and Maple, but I actually learned how to do useful stuff with Maple and it is a very useful tool. I can't really give a fair comparison to other programs, though.

Matlab for programmming and numerical stuff
Maple for symbolics

I use my pansy ti-89.

Also mathmatica if I need to ever use a more powerful one (because that's what I have).

I'm an engineer and I use matlab for my optimization and some simulation problems. I resort to maple if I need a symbolic solver. I have no idea how to do that in matlab.
