I have a question for Asian folks here about college education.

As a parent, my wife and I plan to pay for all our kid's education no matter what
College they want to attend. My children would tell me that most of their non-Asian friends have to take out large loans and pay back later after they graduate.

Most people I knew at Rutgers, including Asians had to take out huge loans for school and than grad school.

I would have had to do the same if my grandparents didn't pay for it all....

Asians pay a fortune to come to australia and get university education. College loves it, they make alot of money. Us locals hate it, cause there is less places for us and... i hate to say it..... you get "ghettos" of asians.

my parents paid for it up-front, and then I paid them back after I graduated and got my trust fund from my grandfather (and had just about enough money left over to buy a pizza and a 6-pack. lol)

"Loan" your kid the money with the understanding that a pre-set % of it will be forgiven for achieving above a certain level, etc. Will give a great incentive to not party too much...

My Wife's Asian and her parents pay for a good bit of her education. My parents are in Brazil so they can't afford my, but even if they did "boy you have to build yourself up." At least I get my wife's left over financial aid.

Most of my wife's education was supported by VA. She graduated in '99. For her cert program (Speech Path Assistant), I pay for it. When she goes to grad school, I will also pay for it. To pay I started taking on jobs as a male hooker on 54th and El Cajon.

Took out loans for all my years, paying them back now. My parents covered the any interest that occurred before I got my job.

My parents paid for tuition, food and car insurance during undergrad, I got the rest. Grad school was all on me though.

I'm european rather than asian.

I'm asian.. I got zero from parents. I'm still paying off my student loans, I paid off my own car, all my possession is from my own money, and I just bought a condo by myself.

Of course, my parents helped with little things here and there (gifts..etc..), but I pride myself that I did almost everything after turning 18 by myself.
