Edit: I assume you're talking about the guy who killed he woman in red on that balcony?
not necessarily. i wouldnt call 'the salesman' an assassin because his motivation is money and she was expecting it. id consider him more of a mercenary. it may seem like im splitting hairs here, but a few people ive talked to who have seen the movie dont quite grasp that the girl (aka 'the customer') put that hit out on herself. just thought id clear that up.Originally posted by: jtusa
That first scene shows that he's an assassin, so when you see him in the elevator at the end with the one girl, you know it's because she's going to be killed for ratting out her hooker buddies.

yep. she was running away from something that she knew would eventually catch up with her. so she put a hit out on herself and saved herself the anguish later on. also the reason he says "ill cash her check in the morning".Originally posted by: Kelvrick
Eh? So she wanted herself killed?

i knew thats what happened, but it was* reiterated by frank miller on the extended dvd.Originally posted by: Xafgoat
Is this what you think happened or was it in the dvd commentary or something?
A silenced gunshot stabs the night air to reveal that The Salesman has shot The Customer. The reader is led to believe that The Customer had fallen into a serious and difficult situation and, with no other feasible alternative, hired The Salesman to kill her. Later information given by Frank Miller on the commentary of the Recut & Extended DVD Edition states that The Customer had an affair with a member of the mafia, and when she found out tried to break it off with him. The mafia member then swore to her that she would die in the most terrible way possible, and when it is least expected. The Customer, having connections, hires The Salesman to kill her.

the waitress was Brittany Murphy.. she wasn't the one in the elevator. Unless you're talking about a different waitress.Originally posted by: LoKe
I haven't watched the movie in a while, but she looks like the waitress.![]()

I'd guess the line: "ill cash her check in the morning" is written for the viewing audience's sake but it would've been better to make sure the check cleared first before doing the job.Originally posted by: anxi80
