HEY ALL,

Just bought it today and its great! My first lcd monitor ever:)

Anyway, it only comes with a vga cable and NO DVI-D cable:(

So, is there any real significant increase in image quality with DVI over analog?

Should I just stick with analog concerning this monitor? Analog looks great to me as is....but I have no clue what DVI would look like?

So what you guys think?

Oh and what is your preferred color settings for this monitor? Its really really bright and glossy.

I have this monitor too. I personally run my on a DVI cable, as it displays images crisper and cleaner. A VGA connection just looks blurry and slightly washed out IMO.

I run with these settings:
Brightness: 40
Contrast:70
Gamma: -50
Red: 41
Green: 30
Blue: 38

Blacks are deep and contrast looks good. Try it and see how it works for you. Hope this helps.

Go with DVI. You can get them for like 5 bucks. Once you see it you can really tell the difference. Analog looks blurry and the colors are bad and theres noise. DVI is definitely worth it.

this model has terrible colors. I'm not sure why people on this particular forum keep recommending it when all the professional reviews say the wide color gamut ruins it even considering it has really great response times and lack of input lag.

the blacks look no better than any other TN panel to me. I returned this overpriced monitor and got something bigger and better that actually didnt skimp on including a freaking dvi cable too.

I have this Monitor too and would definitely recommend using a DVI Cable. Once you tweak it, its a great monitor. See below:

All "TN" panels are sensitive to viewing angles but until they perfect LCD technology, you'll always have to give up something to get something else. That's why I held onto my 22" CRT for so long. I'm very happy with my new LCD. I also have no problems with the colors now with the current settings I'm using. The Colors look fantastic to me.

That's the thing...it's not cheap. Not at all for a 22" TN at around $309 (Best Buy). It's a great monitor for sure but not worth the money considering the new Dell 2209 IPS panel is pricing at $299 + shipping as well as many other 24" TNs at that price point.

yeahs its ridiculously priced and doesnt even come with a dvi cable which at that price is inexcusable. I paid much less than that for a Dell 24 inch 1920x1080 screen and the DVI cable was included.

It WAS cheap

Now that the price fixing has gone down the market has changed considerably

when was it cheap? most other 22inch monitors go on sale for well under 200 bucks but this one has never been cheaper than $279 even on sale.

It was 250 CDN 6 months ago. The panel was also better than nearly all the 22" panels at the time.

I never said it is good. It was just popular bang for buck mid-range monitor. I personally wouldn't be able to live with it (I have a 20WMGX2 for a reason).

Agreed on other LCD's being much cheaper, but I do have the slightly older LG L226-WTQ which is stellar for a TN panel and the LG227 pretty much the same - one of the reasons (really the sole reason) for the high price IMO was the fact that it was the same as the Samsung 226BW with the good panel - with the LG you never had to worry about getting a bad panel in the panel lotto.

Hello all,

Thanks for all the replies and advice. I appreciate it.

Yes, I am going to buy a DVI cable but the question is which one to buy?

My video card is a XFX geforce 8400gs (512 megs) and it has a DVI-I output.

The LG L227 monitor needs a DVI-D cable.

So, can a DVI-D (on both ends) cable work for me? Or I need some other type of cable?

cheers....

***********

On another note........I upgraded from a 19 inch Sceptre CRT monitor and its like night and day to me now:)

I know its not cheap but being a gamer (not so much these days due to work) I was rather skeptical about buying a LCD. This one came highly recommended by many people on numerous forums. I know every monitor has its faults but the L227 seemed to have more pros than cons so I bought one. A 24 inch would of been too large for my desk area at the moment. I needed one of the best 22 inchers in the market.

To make a long story short, I am quite pleased that I picked a nice brand and model as my first LCD monitor:) I could of done much worse right?
