I have a question about snynology fan longevity

I have a Synology DiskStation in my basement that is on all the time. The control panel has three options for cooling fan speed. You can select high speed max cool / low speed quiet mode / power saving only turn on fan when it gets hot.

I currently have it set to the maximum cooling thinking the hard drive inside will last longest that way.

My concern is that perhaps on max cool mode the hard drive will last longer than the fan >.<.

Since I only have one of two possible drives (50% heat generation) and basements are generally cooler anyways should I select the lower speed setting for the fan?

Does anyone know much about cooling fan life versus RPM of said cooling fan?

Thanks!

Running constantly but slowly should give you the most life if and only if it does not get subjected to significant impacts during its life time. You're generally better off for that to happen when the fan is off.

If you're using suitable HDDs, even slow fans should do fine. Use RAID to prepare for an HDD failing, and backups to prepare for loss of access to the data.

I don't think you need anything other than the slowest speed really.
You might like to read that Google study about hard disks, where they talk about temperature vs logevity among other things.
