I have a question about side fan placement.

I want to put a fan on the side of my case. Most of the ones that I have seen seem to be either on the bottom or the middle of the side panel. Would this be because air flows from the front bottom to the back top generally? What about placing the fan opposite the cpu? This is what I was going to do. I would like to know your opinions. Thanks.

Duct? So let me get this straight, are you saying that above the cpu you would use a pipe to bring fresh air to the cpu's hs/fan instead of a fan blowing fresh air? That would be interesting.
