I have a question about Moderator practices

I posted a topic in Politics & News last night, and it got locked. I hardly ever post topics of my own, and I've never had one locked before.

Now, I'm not an idiot. I know why some topics get locked, but mine honestly confuses me.

Here is a link to the locked post:

I don't mean to challenge the moderator's decision to lock the thread, but my questions were asked in earnest on a topic that I didn't expect to be sensitive or controversial to the point of halting discussion about it. I suppose it might be considered not P&N material, but I would think they'd just MOVE it to Off-Topic rather than locking it.

Are the moderators generally forthcoming about their reasons for locking a thread? If I wanted to understand better their reasons, who could I ask? If it was a simple case of being in the wrong forum, I'd like to re-post my questions on the correct forum to continue discussion, but if the moderators have some problem with the topic itself I'll let it alone. I just don't know how to tell.

Any advice?

Please explain to us why the locked thread was started in P&N.

Or had you read the next post in the original locked thread; you would have had your answer.

Sometimes it's easier for Mods to just lock threads instead of moving them. Your thread was OT material.

I *THINK* that any threads, even hypothetical, about killing someone are locked.

And ALL threads about "why was my thread locked" are locked.
