I THINK IT'S TIME TO OPEN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT. I WILL LINK IT TO MY CHECKING ACCOUNT I ALREADY HAVE, AS PER INSTRUCTIONS AT THE SITE OF ING DIRECT. I WOULD, HOWEVER, HAVE A QUESTION OR SEVERAL FOR YOU:

1. CAN I DEPOSIT/WITHDRAW UNLIMITED NUMBER OF TIMES WITHOUT TRANSACTION COSTS?

2. SECONDLY. HOW HAS YOUR EXPERIENCES WITH ING DIRECT IF YOU HAVE AN ING DIRECT ORANGE SAVINGS ACCOUNT AT INGDIRECT.COM?

Had my account for a while now. No problems at all. Don't know about the transactions question. But I do know that an average ING transaction takes about 3 days to process.

Limitations on Withdrawals and Transfers From Orange Savings Accounts: Federal law requires us to reserve the right to require you to give us at least seven (7) days written notice before any withdrawal or transfer is made from a savings account. Federal law also limits transfers out of your savings account to six (6) transfers per monthly statement cycle using any combination of pre-authorized, telephone, and automatic transfer services, no more than three (3) of which may be by debit card. If you exceed this limit on more than an occasional basis, we will close your account or transfer your funds to a transaction account for which you are eligible. These limitations do not apply to Orange Certificate of Deposit accounts. We may refuse any withdrawal or transfer of funds from your account that is made in a manner not permitted by us.

2) I've been REALLY really happy with ING Direct. The interest rate RAWKS, and their website is really easy to navigate. The only difference between it and my Bank One savings account is that transfers take 5 days before you're able to withdraw the money, but the interest starts accruing on your transfers after the second business day, so it's pretty much only 2 business days in terms of interest...not five.

Their website is great. There are lots of options and menus, but they make it really easy to navigate.

So - i know this is a silly question - people really use a fully online internet account for huge savings accounts? 😛

I suppose there is no issue retrieving it all if I want and I decide to hate ING direct - and obviously I'd need to keep bank records habitually since I am never even going to see any ING people in person.

Well its FDIC insured up to 100k... and you can ask for a monthly paper statement sent to you...

Well its FDIC insured up to 100k... and you can ask for a monthly paper statement sent to you...

Yup, ING, as far as I know, is a BIG bank. They've got a lot of investment products, and while I haven't done much research on them, the folks over at FW have great things to say about them. That was all the motivation I needed.
 
I've had one for nearly a year. I've transfered money in and out, but I don't know about the quantity limit on transfers. They always have had the highest interest on plain savings accounts that I've seen.

No beefs, good service.

I can attest to the fact that The ING Group is one of the largest financial institutions in Europe and the world.

As long as you're FDIC insured that's all you really need to be concerned about.
