Im basically the Windows tech guy at my high school library (because the school uses Macs, and we have a few Windows computers for public access, so the normal tech guys dont really know anything about Windows).
One of the Dells running Windows XP (Home edition I think) got a blue screen of death with the folowing error messare:
STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
I googled it and found this at Dell's website:
http://support.dell.com/suppor...en&s=dhs&cs=19
I know Im supposed to run CHKDSK to fix this. The problem is that I cant install the recovery console because Windows wont boot, and I get the blue screen. Can I run the program without installing the console? Do I need to use the XP disk that came with the computer, or can I use any disk?

If I remember correctly, you don't need to install the recovery console to be able to run it. Just insert the Windows CD, let it do its thing, and choose 'Recovery Console' from the list of choices.
